Welcome to Glenavy

The Glenavy Development Partnership is a cross-community organisation of people from the village of Glenavy and the surrounding countryside who have come together to improve their locality. Our motto is "Your community working together". This website provides information on the activities of the activities of the Partnership and gives an introduction to Glenavy, a village in County Antrim, Northern Ireland.

Senior Citizens Lunch

The annual Senior Citizens lunch takes place on Saturady 4 Ffebruary 2012 from 1.0 pm to 4.0 pm in the Methodist Hall, main Street, Glenavy. Senior citizens and friends are warmly invited to attend. Transport can be provided.

Glenavy Christmas Events

Christmas events held in December 2011 included the annual switching on of the lights, the Community Carol Service and a christmas holiday quiz.

Did you join in the Fun of Festival Week 2011?

Glenavy Development Partnership's 34th Annual Festival was launched on Friday 10 June and continued until until Saturday 18th June. Photographs from activities are on display at the Glenaidan Centre and high resolution copies can be purchased for a small fee. All proceeds support the work of the Glenavy Development Partnership.

Photographs of and information on festival activities will be soon available online, in low resolution, in the interim here's a brief synopsis of what happened:-

Friday 10th June 7pm Fancy Dress Parade

First, second and third prizes were awarded for the categories of Most Original, Most Humorous, and Prettiest/Most Handsome. The competition was judged by the Mayor of Lisburn, Councillor Brian Heading. Congratulations to Tierna Wilkinson who was selected as Miss Glenavy and also to Andy Murray who is Master Glenavy for 2011.

Saturday 11th June Senior Citizens Trip to Armagh.

Over 40 local senior citizens took a trip to Armagh and had an evening meal in Halls Mill Inn Lawrencetown.

Saturday 11th June Canoeing at Gawley’s Gate.

Canoeing sessions for the adventurous at Gawleys Gate.

Sunday 12th June 2pm Trip to Rams Island.

The annual trip to the fascinating Rams Island from Sandy Bay Marina.

Monday 13th June 7pm Fun Run

A very well attended Fun Run on both the 3 & 4 Mile routes. Refreshments & medals were provided to all who lasted the course.

Tuesday 14th June 7pm – 10pm

Team Build Ireland Activity evening. Archery, Zip lines, games, and BBQ at the Tullynewbank Stables. .

Tuesday 14th June Exhibition Cycle race.  

Phoenix Cycling and Maryland Wheelers present the Seamus Cormican Memorial Road Race. A six lap exhibition race over 22 miles with presentation of cup after race.

Wednesday 15th June 6:30pm Glenavy Cup Footballl Night featuring 18 teams

Under 12 Winners were THE SAINTS, the Under 12 Runners Up were the GLENAVY GUNNERS and 3rd place went to  THE LADS
Under 16 Winners were THE FERTILIZERZ, the Under 16 Runners Up were the RAPPING SHADOWS and in3rd Place were TEAM ACTIMEL
Over 16 Winners were the GYP and Over 16 Runners up were TEAM DANNY

Thursday 16th June 8pm to late Festival Quiz Night.

Held in Lily Johnston's in Main Street, Glenavy. Clues by John Farr. 

Friday 17th June Family Fun Evening 6pm to 9pm

Back to Lily Johnston’s with live Music & BBQ.

Friday 17th June 7pm to 9pm Pony School

All about caring for ponies with riding and grooming at Tullynewbank Stables. Costs £10

Saturday 18th June 11am to 4pm Fabulous Fun day & Car Boot sale

Our best Fun day yet with STARDOME and solar viewing with the Irish Astronomical Association. Also featured bouncy castles galore, an assault course, games, zip line, archery, jewellery workshops, face painting and BBQ. The event ended at 3.0pm with the Annual Duck Race that brought the rain. We should have known!

Vision For Glenavy

A draft strategic vision for Glenavy has been developed by Paul Hogarth Associates following a workshop in March. The vision outlines a range of initiatives to improve and develop Glenavy and brings together many suggestions for improvement previously raised within the community. We invite you to read the vision document, and view the map with accompanying explanatory legend. (all documents in Adobe format).
